VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates.

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession.  Take a look at our activities this week:

• 4/19—Attended a forum on the proposed Delivery System Reform Incentive Program (DSRIP) being considered by the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS).
• 4/19—Joined a WebEx meeting hosted by the Virginia Partners for Care Transitions to discuss efforts to improve care transitions throughout Virginia’s health care system
• 4/19—Attended the DMAS Board meeting.
• 4/19—Attended the Virginia Center for Health Innovation’s Board and Leadership Council meeting.
• 4/20—Attended a political fundraiser for the Senate Republican Caucus.
• 4/20—Participated in the first meeting of the Alzheimer’s Assisted Living Waiver work group looking at how the waiver can satisfy CMS requirements for home and community based services.
• 4/20—Joined a conference call hosted by AHCA for state affiliate staff members to discuss the new prospective payment system rules and survey issues.
• 4/21—Participated in a meeting hosted by DMAS and the Virginia Department of Health on the Long Term Care Mutual Aid Plan (LTC-MAP).
• 4/21—Attended a meeting with other health care provider groups to discuss medical records copying fees.
• 4/21—Attended political fundraisers for Del. Mark Sickles (D-Fairfax) and Sen. Bill Stanley (R-Bedford Co.)
• 4/22—Attended the Age of Disruption Tour addressing aging and acute care services.
