VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of August 3, 2020.  

• 8/3—Participated in AHCA/NCAL’s weekly conference call for state affiliate staff on COVID-19.
• 8/3—Participated in a call on COVID-19 for AHCA/NCAL state affiliate staff.
• 8/4—Participated in a AHCA Quality Improvement Committee call.
• 8/4—Over 20 individuals participated in the Suicide and Self-Harm in the Residential Elderly webinar.
• 8/4—Spoke with Del. Patrick Hope (D-Arlington) about VHCA-VCAL’s special session priorities.
• 8/4—Participated in a virtual roundtable hosted by AHCA/NCAL with Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA).
• 8/4—Participated in the VDH work group meeting looking at long term care workforce issues.
• 8/4—Participated in a conference call with the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association and LeadingAge Virginia on COVID-19 coordination between long term care facilities and health systems.
• 8/4—Participated in a learning lab hosted by the Claude Moore Scholars program and to discuss developing the healthcare workforce pipeline.
• 8/5—VHCA-VCAL’s Board of Directors held its quarterly meeting.
• 8/5—Joined an AHCA/NCAL meeting for state affiliate reimbursement specialists.
• 8/6—Participated in the COVID-19 LTCF Task Force meeting.
• 8/6—Participated in the Virginia COVID-19 Testing Advisory Council.
• 8/6—Keith Hare participated virtually in the AHCA Affiliated State Health Care Association Executives (ASHCAE) meeting.
• 8/6—Joined the monthly NCAL state affiliate staff webex.
• 8/7—Spoke with Del. Mark Sickles’s (D-Fairfax) legislative staff about VHCA-VCAL’s special session priorities.
