It’s hard to believe we are once again approaching the end of another busy year! It has been a successful and productive one, and there is still a lot happening as we approach the holiday season. The AHCA Board of Governors met for the final time in November to wrap up its 2016 business, approve the 2017 budget and finalize 2017 goals.

I hope you will find this summary from the Board meeting helpful as we close 2016 and start looking ahead to the New Year. As always, we are here to support your efforts and ensure we continue to improve lives by delivering solutions for quality care.

AHCA/NCAL 2017 Organizational Goals   

The Association recently established a Strategic Planning Committee, which has flourished under the leadership of Board member Phil Fogg. We thank him and all of the committee members for their tireless commitment to this important effort.

Phil shared an outline of the strategic planning process with the Board, which helped AHCA/NCAL identify 22 priority issues that are categorized into the following: reimbursement, regulatory, workforce, other, and AHCA. The committee has also developed two five-year scenarios that identify challenges and opportunities within the long term and post-acute care profession.

The strategic planning process has been essential to determining AHCA/NCAL’s 2017 goals, which are finalized and approved by the Board. You will see in these goals that we are dedicated to providing as much value as possible to all of our members. This support will be extremely important given the shifting political landscape and changing risks for the profession. The past few years have been positive in terms of reimbursement, but we’ve faced many challenges on the regulatory front. The next four years, however, are likely to be the reverse.
