VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of December 14, 2020.  

• 12/14—Participated in AHCA/NCAL’s weekly conference call for state affiliate staff on COVID-19.
• 12/14—Participated in a meeting of the Virginia Vaccine Advisory Work Group.
• 12/14—Participated in the Long-Term Care Facility Task Force’s staff wellness crisis support committee.
• 12/15—Attended the DMAS training for LTSS Screening teams.
• 12/15—Participated in a conference call with the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association (VHHA), LeadingAge Virginia, and the Virginia Assisted Living Association (VALA) on COVID-19 coordination between long term care facilities and health systems.
• 12/16—The VHCA-VCAL Quality of Care and Regulatory Committee met to discuss care transitions between LTCFs and acute care.
• 12/16—Participated in the Long-Term Care Facility Task Force’s care transitions work group meeting.
• 12/17—Participated in the Virginia COVID-19 Testing Advisory Council call.
• 12/17—Attended the biweekly Virginia COVID-19 Long Term Care Facility Task Force meeting.
• 12/17—Met with long term care stakeholder groups to discuss 2021 General Assembly session priorities.
• 12/18—Met with DMAS representatives to discuss potential Medicaid payment reforms and value based purchasing.
