VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of January 15, 2018    

• 1/15—Met with Del. Scott Garrett (R-Lynchburg), the new chairman of the House Appropriations Committee’s subcommittee on Health and Human Resources to discuss the budget and Medicaid issues. 
• 1/15—Met with Hill Hopper with Omnicare, Inc.
• 1/15—Met with Del. Chris Head (R-Roanoke) to discuss legislation.
• 1/16—Participated in the biweekly Anthem and Virginia Premier nursing facility claims conference calls.
• 1/16—Met with Del. Vivian Watts (D-Annandale) to discuss her bill, HB 309, to establish direct care staffing ratios for nursing centers.
• 1/16-17—Nearly 35 VHCA-VCAL members attended the MDS Basic Part 1 Workshop taught by Judy Wilhide Brandt and hosted by Lucy Corr Village.
• 1/17– Participated in the biweekly Magellan and United nursing facility claims conference calls.
• 1/17—Participated in a DMAS CCC Plus Provider Conference Call.
• 1/17—Participated in the VHI Board of Directors meeting.
• 1/17—Participated in the AHCA/NCAL State Affiliate Policy Task Force.
• 1/17—Participated in the AHCA/NCAL Legislative Retreat via conference call.
• 1/18—Chairman of the Board David Tucker and other VHCA-VCAL Board members met with Bill Weisberg, co-owner of Saber Healthcare.
• 1/18—Participated in the monthly AHCA/NCAL call for state affiliate staff leaders.
• 1/18—Participated in the biweekly Aetna and Optima nursing facility claims conference calls.
• 1/18—Participated in the biweekly Anthem CCC Plus processing claims conference call.
• 1/18—Participated in the Virginia Healthcare Associated Infections Advisory Group Meeting.
