Surveyors Not Affected by Federal Government Shutdown
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the nursing facility survey process is not affected by the continuing federal government shutdown.
CMS is an operating division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The HHS appropriations bill was signed by President Donald Trump on September 28, 2018 funding the agency through federal fiscal year 2019.
Also of note, funds used to pay Medicare and Medicaid benefits are not subject to the appropriations process as these are entitlement programs, not discretionary programs.
Nine federal departments are closed: Agriculture, Commerce, Justice, Homeland Security, Interior, State, Transportation, Treasury and Housing and Urban Development.
