VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of July 15, 2019.  

• 7/16—Met with Secretary of Health and Human Resources Daniel Carey and the Virginia Oral Health Coalition to discuss a Medicaid benefit for adult dental care.
• 7/15—Participated in the DMAS LTC Portal webinar.
• 7/15-19—36 attendees took part in the Introduction to Activity Management in Long Term Care course in Richmond.
• 7/16-17—Judy Wilhide Brandt led the MDS Basic Part II Workshop hosted by VHCA-VCAL.
• 7/16—Participated in the biweekly CCC Plus claims processing conference calls with Anthem and Virginia Premier.
• 7/17—Participated in a political fundraiser for Speaker of the House of Delegates Kirk Cox (R-Colonial Heights).
• 7/17—Participated in AHCA’s Affiliate Policy Task Force.
• 7/18—Met with Aetna Better Health of Virginia and Emporia Manor to discuss care coordination issues.
• 7/18—Hosted a demonstration of the capabilities of VHCA-VCAL’s Survey Management and Analysis Resource Tool (SMART) to four other AHCA state affiliates.
• 7/18—Participated in the Advisory Committee meeting of the Virginia Center on Aging.
• 7/18-19—Lisette Carbajal and Steve Ford traveled to southwest Virginia to meet with Del. Terry Kilgore (R-Gate City), Del. Todd Pillion (R-Abingdon), and Del. Nick Rush (R-Pulaski) to discuss VHCA-VCAL priorities.
• 7/18—Participated in the biweekly CCC Plus claims processing conference calls with Aetna and Optima.
• 7/19—Attended the meeting of the Board of Long Term Care Administrators’ Regulatory Advisory Panel.
