Board of Nursing Begins Its Look at CNA Training

On July 14, the Virginia Board of Nursing (BoN) convened a work group comprised of BoN members and interested stakeholders to review both the clinical and didactic aspects of the existing training and curriculum for Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs).  The BoN wants to determine if there are any improvements that should be made to the existing process.  Betty DeOrnellas of Sentara MeadowView Terrace represents VHCA-VCAL on the work group.

Discussion of increasing the number of training hours required to more than 120 was minimal, but the BoN did seek feedback from providers about any shortfalls they saw when CNAs arrived in facilities from their training programs.

If you have any thoughts that you would like shared with the BoN as it considers this issue, please send them to Matt Mansell at matt.mansell@vhca.org.
