VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of July 18, 2022.  

• 7/18—Met with staff of the Virginia Attorney General to discuss staffing agency issues.
• 7/18—Participated in a call with DMAS on CCC Plus issues.
• 7/19—Attended AHCA/NCAL’s semi-annual call for state affiliate staff on ahcancalEd and member programs.
• 7/19—Hosted a member Lunch & Learn on the Medicaid LTSS Screening process.
• 7/19—Represented VHCA-VCAL at the Long-Term Care Roundtable for Virginia Stakeholders hosted by the Council of State Governments.
• 7/19—Listened to the CMS National Stakeholder Call with Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure.
• 7/20—49 attended the Assisted Living Symposium.
• 7/21—The VHCA-VCAL Nominating Committee met to evaluate the board nominations.
• 7/21—Attended the Medicaid Managed Care Advisory Committee Meeting.
• 7/21—Participated in the DMAS Nursing Facility Value-Based Purchasing Stakeholder meeting.
• 7/21—Participated in a DMAS work group meeting related to legislation on wheelchair reimbursement in nursing facilities.
• 7/21—Met with DMAS leaders for a monthly meeting between the association and agency.
• 7/21—Hosted a political fundraiser for Del. Mark Sickels (D-Fairfax).
