VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of July 23, 2018.  

• 7/23—Participated in a meeting with representatives from the Joint Commission on Health Care, the Department of Social Services, LeadingAge Virginia and the Virginia Assisted Living Association on the study of generator availability in assisted living facilities.
• 7/23—Met with the Virginia Nurses Association’s Foundation to discuss mental health and the opioids epidemic.
• 7/24—Over 110 attendees participated in the 2018 Assisted Living Symposium in Richmond.
• 7/24—Hosted a meeting of the VCAL Committee.
• 7/24—Participated in the DMAS conference call on CCC Plus care coordination.
• 7/24—Participated in a webinar introducing AHCA/NCAL’s new Technical Assistance Center for state Medicaid reform.
• 7/25—Participated in AHCA/NCAL’s Emergency Preparedness Committee Call.
• 7/25—Attended the grand opening for the Linden House in Alexandria, Cambridge’s new assisted living facility.
• 7/26—Participated in AHCA’s Independent Owners’ Committee Council call.
• 7/26—Hosted a joint meeting of the Quality and Regulatory Committees.
• 7/27—Met with the Virginia Department of Health to discuss AHCA’s INTERACT (Interventions to Reduce Acute Care Transfers) tools.
• 7/27—The VHCA-VCAL Owners’ Committee met to discuss CCC Plus and the attack ad campaign against nursing centers.
