VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates.

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of May 17, 2021.  

• 5/17—Participated in AHCA/NCAL’s weekly conference call for state affiliate staff on COVID-19.
• 5/17—Monitored the House Appropriations Committee meeting.
• 5/18—Participated in a meeting of AHCA/NCAL’s Reimbursement Committee to review information related to the propose rule on the SNF prospective payment system.
• 5/18—Attended a meeting of the Virginia Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Advisory Group.
• 5/18—Monitored the meeting of the Joint Commission on Health Care and its briefing on its impact of long term care workforce needs on nursing facility care study.
• 5/18—53 individuals attended the webinar on Handling Job Applications with No Hiccups led by Lou Ann Brubaker with Brubaker Consulting.
• 5/18—Participated in virtual AHCA Council of States meeting.
• 5/19—Participated in AHCA’s State Affiliate Policy Task Force.
• 5/20 –Participated in the American Society of Health Care Administration Executives’ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training.
• 5/20—54 individuals attended the webinar on Retaining Your Team led by Lou Ann Brubaker.
• 5/20—Participated in AHCA/NCAL’s monthly call with state affiliate staff to discuss media and public relations resources.
• 5/20—Participated in the Virginia COVID-19 LTCF Task Force meeting.
• 5/21—Participated in a meeting of DMAS’s Dental Advisory Committee.
