VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of May 18, 2020.  

• 5/18—Participated in AHCA’s weekly legislative conference call for state affiliate staff.
• 5/18—Participated in AHCA’s weekly COVID-19 call for state affiliate staff.
• 5/19—Took part in the standing LTC Facilities Provider Coordination call with VDH and other stakeholders.
• 5/19—Participated in a conference call with the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association (VHHA), LeadingAge Virginia, and the Virginia Assisted Living Association (VALA) on COVID-19 coordination between long term care facilities and health systems.
• 5/19—Participated in the weekly nursing facility COVID-19 call hosted by DMAS.
• 5/19—Participated in the biweekly CCC Plus claims processing calls with Aetna and Virginia Premier.
• 5/20—Took part in the COVID-19 Long Term Care Facility Task Force meeting.
• 5/20—Met with VDH to discuss ways Virginia’s community colleges could support LTC facilities.
• 5/21—Participated in the weekly DMAS call on COVID-19.
• 5/21—Participated in the COVID-19 Testing Advisory Council call.
• 5/21—Hosted a webinar on CMS and CDC COVID-19 Surveys.
• 5/22—Met with VDH to discuss COVID-19 testing in LTC facilities.
• 5/22—Met with Sen. Sibohan Dunnavant (R-Henrico) via conference call.
