CMS Issues Medicaid Managed Care Proposed Rule

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) which seeks to revise the Medicaid managed care regulations that were finalized in May 2016. According to CMS, since publishing that final rule, the agency has received significant stakeholder feedback that the 2016 regulations were unnecessarily prescriptive and resulted in additional costs and administrative burden to states. In response, CMS indicates that the proposed reforms would promote flexibility, strengthen accountability, and maintain and enhance the program’s integrity.

AHCA and VHCA continue to review the proposed rule to identify relevant provisions for comment. Comments are due January 14, 2019. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the proposed rule, please contact Narda Ipakchi, AHCA Senior Director, Managed Markets.
