VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of October 7, 2019.  

• 10/7—Hosted a meeting to discuss revisions to the curriculum for registered medication aides.
• 10/8—Brandon Oaks hosted Rep. Ben Cline (R-VA-6) for a facility tour and resident town hall.
• 10/8—Participated in the CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing calls with Aetna and Virginia Premier.
• 10/8—The Assisted Living Survey Readiness Manual Work Group met.
• 10/9—Participated in the CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing calls with Magellan and United.
• 10/9—Met with representatives from LeadingAge Virginia and the Virginia Assisted Living Association to discuss shared priorities for the upcoming legislative session.
• 10/9—Met with the Office of Licensure and Certification to discuss survey issues.
• 10/9—Attended political fundraisers for Sen. Richard Stuart (R-Westmoreland) and Del. Betsy Carr (D-Richmond).

10/10—Participated in the CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing calls with Anthem and Optima.
