Media Toolkit for NALW

Media Toolkit for NALW

Connect with the public by reaching out to your local media outlets to spread the word about National Assisted Living Week (NALW).  You can promote your unique NALW events or highlight innovative services or programs you offer.  The sample media toolkit includes ideas for your social media posts, letters to the editor, a press release, proclamation, and more.

Sample Invite to the Media    DOCPDF

This sample letter to local media notifies them about a special event you are holding during NALW. Look for a reporter who has covered similar stories before and make that connection. Send this at least a week prior to the event.

Sample Letter to the Editor    DOCPDF

These short articles provide greater control over the content of your message, as they can be authored by a designated representative of the community (e.g., executive director). Share how your assisted living community “captures the moment” with your local newspaper and magazine editors.

Sample Press Release   DOCPDF

News releases are used to alert the local media of significant events, issues, services, programs, awards, and other events. Send the release to your local news editors and reporters, especially those who have previously covered your assisted living community.

Sample Proclamation    DOCPDF

Proclamations are a great mechanism to have your locally elected officials visit your community. Invite your governor, mayor or city council members to issue a proclamation (offer this sample) in honor of NALW. You can invite them to visit the community and kick off the week on Sunday, Grandparent’s Day.

Sample Social Media Posts    DOC | PDF

Post items throughout NALW on your assisted living community/company’s social media channels. Share photos and videos of unique events or highlight resident stories (with their authorization). Use the hashtag #NALW on channels like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to contribute to the national conversation. Follow NALW on Facebook to see what others around the country are doing.

About NALW

Beginning on Grandparents Day, September 9 and running through September 15, NALW will be celebrated in assisted living communities across the country. It’s an opportunity to thank staff members for their hard work and volunteers for their service. NALW is also a time to help the public better understand how assisted living communities play a crucial role in the larger long term care spectrum as well as the unique experiences and needs of residents.
