What’s  happening: DSS is conducting its periodic regulatory review of the of 22VAC40-73, Standards for Licensed Assisted Living Facilities.

• This exercise guided by an executive order establishing a statewide regulatory review system assessing the necessity of regulations.

The official comment period opened on June 15 and runs through July 6, 2026.

• If you have input on the standards, please share them with April Payne so VCAL can consolidate any member feedback into one set of comments for the agency.

Next steps: Following the close of the public comment period, DSS will post a report of the review on the Regulatory Town Hall website and a report of the small business impact review will be published in the Virginia Register of Regulations.
