Emergency Preparedness: Sample Letter for Families

Emergency Preparedness: Sample Letter for Families

Long term care providers and our entire profession join in expressing our deepest sympathy to the families of the residents who lost their lives recently at one location in Florida. As you may have been asked about your facility’s plans to deal with emergency situations, we wanted to share with you a sample letter developed by AHCA/NCAL you can tailor to communicate with your families about your preparations for and response to emergencies.

In addition, AHCA/NCAL has prepared a set of talking points as you talk with the press, residents, families, and friends about what has happened in both Texas and Florida.  (AHCA/NCAL member login is needed to access these materials.)

Emergency preparedness, including the safety of residents and staff, is a priority for our members.  During and after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, there were an unprecedented number of successful evacuations as well as sheltering in place.

In crisis situations, we consistently hear of selfless acts by caregivers who prioritize their residents over their own families and personal property and we often see other facilities step up to help in times of need, making space for residents who need to be evacuated.
