Ms. Doris Dial, 95

Harbourway at Atlantic Shores – Virginia Beach
Ms. Doris Dial has lived in 13 states, and visited more than 60 foreign countries. A Kansas native and the oldest of four, she was her high school valedictorian. Ms. Dial attended MacMurray College for Women in Illinois, where she was president of student government and earned her B.A. in Sociology.
Shortly afterward, she began working for IBM as a systems service woman and married James Dial, a WWII Marine divebomber pilot. An adventurous move took them to Alaska when it was a territory—it became the 49th state while they lived there. This mother of three children also completed her M.A. in Library Science from the University of Pittsburg in 1976. Eventually they moved to Virginia, living in Richmond for 25 years, where she worked as a reference librarian for the Richmond Public Library.
Ms. Dial has traveled around the world with Elderhostel and Friendship Force. For 77 years she has been an active member of P.E.O. International, a philanthropic organization that motivates women to achieve their highest aspirations.
A long-standing member of the Atlantic Shores community in Virginia Beach, she currently serves as President of Harbourway’s Resident Council where she is the unofficial Crossword Puzzle Queen, and is first in line for any outing that involves learning.
