VHCA-VCAL This Week

This WEEKVHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates.

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession.  Take a look at our activities this week:

  • 7/25—Met with representatives of the Department of Medical Assistance Services and LeadingAge Virginia to discuss the Managed Long Term Services and Support (MLTSS) program.
  • 7/26—Participated in the CMS Long-Term Services and Supports Open Door Forum.
  • 7/27—Met with new LeadingAge Virginia President and CEO Melissa Andrews.
  • 7/27—The Richmond District held its quarterly meeting at the VHCA-VCAL office and heard a presentation from Calvin “Dee” Madsen, Fire Marshal Supervisor with the State Fire Marshal’s Office on the life safety code updates.
  • 7/27—Participated in a webinar for AHCA state executives on the changes to the Five-Star system.
  • 7/28—Hosted the Assisted Living Facilities Stakeholder meeting.
  • 7/28—Attended the Emergency Department (ED) Care Coordination Workgroup meeting to discuss Virginia’s needs for an ED care coordination program and best practices.
