Papers Publish Letters to the Editor in Response to Attacks Ads

The Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Arlington Connection have published VHCA-VCAL President and CEO Keith Hare’s letter to the editor denouncing the recent attack ads those papers ran against member nursing centers.

To-date, VHCA-VCAL has submitted letters to the editor to the following papers which ran attack ads placed by a Florida-based plaintiffs’ firm targeting nursing homes:

  • Arlington Connection
  • Bristol Herald Courier
  • Chesterfield Observer
  • Culpeper Star Exponent
  • Daily Progress
  • Fairfax Connection
  • Free Lance Star
  • Madison County Eagle
  • Martinsville Bulletin
  • News Advance
  • Oak Hill/Herndon Connection
  • Richmond Times Dispatch
  • Roanoke Times
  • Smyth County News & Messenger
  • Virginian Pilot
  • Wytheville Enterprise

As a reminder, if your center is the subject of an ad, or if you see an ad in one of your local papers, please scan and send a copy to Amy Hewett, Vice President of Strategy and Communications.  We are filing complaints to the Virginia State Bar for each ad, as well as submitting letters to the editor to each paper that runs an ad.

Use our new Attack Ad Toolkit for additional resources to help your center to respond to the ads. The toolkit includes sample letters to the editor that staff, families, or residents could tailor to submit their own letter.
