Roman Eagle Rehabilitation & Health Care Center Inc. – Danville
Mr. Hester “Bud” Jeffries, Jr. was born in Danville and at the age of 18 enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Jeffries served two years during the Korean War on a communication vessel. After returning home from his service to his country, he decided to enter the workforce at Dan River Mills, Inc., a textile factory, where he worked for 30 years, laboring long hours to provide for his wife, Ruby.
One day, after years of serving his country, his family, and working in the textile industry, he found he was living alone after the passing of his wife, and his health began to decline. He was admitted to Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, but was determined to still love his life.
On September 19, 2015 at the age of 87, “Bud” married another resident of Roman Eagle, Mildred Stokes, in a beautiful wedding in the facility. They just celebrated their one-year anniversary. So, what does an 88 year-old Korean War Veteran do with his life now at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center? He loves baseball; especially the Atlanta Braves and enjoys attending the country musical performances at Roman Eagle with his new bride! Life and love at 88 years old is what defines Hester “Bud” Jeffries’, Jr.’s life legacy!
