Virginia Health Care Association-Virginia Center for Assisted Living (VHCA-VCAL) is partnering with Judy Wilhide Brandt to present two workshops on MDS designed for MDS coordinators and interdisciplinary team members who need to know more about the ins and outs of MDS. This class will include MDS changes for Oct 1, 2023. Offerings include a two-day Basic Part I Workshop in June and a two-day Basic Part II Workshop in July. Space is limited.

Topics Covered

• Introduction to the RAI Process
• Role of the MDS in the Long Term Care Survey Process (LTCSP)
• Line-by-line coding instructions for crucial sections typically done by the MDSC where instructions can be confusing: Interview Skills, MDS Sections GG, I, J, M, N, O, and P. (Note: Only the specified MDS sections will be covered.)
• Care Area Assessments (CAA) and Care Planning
• OBRA Scheduling
• Changes to the RAI Manual effective Oct 1, 2023

Judy Wilhide Brandt, known for her ability to comprehend and explain complex issues in ways that are easy to understand, serves as an advisor, auditor, and trainer for multiple long term care providers across the country. She has over 25 years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility in nursing facilities as a nurse manager, executive, and consultant. She has been a State surveyor and RAI Manager for the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is a nationally-known speaker, trainer, and author.
