Mr. James Handy joined the U.S. Army at 18 and was soon shipped off to the Korean War. He spent 25 months in North Korea driving a bulldozer and building air strips. After returning home from the war, he once picked up several of his passions he had left behind.
At 23, a fellow neighbor encouraged him to enter a painting contest at a local business. Mr. Handy painted a picture on a shoe box lid and turned it in. As Mr. Handy describes it, not long after, his neighbor came “flying in the driveway” to tell him he had won the grand prize of a Ford Fairlane! Since that time, he has honed his craft into many fine works including several murals in a variety of local churches.
Along with his painting talent, he also “picked on the banjo” and was a member of the Pleasant View Singers for 18 years. He traveled with the group to many locales sharing his musical talent.
