Mr. Thomas Sterling Strickler served as a medic in the Marines during World War II as part of the Pacific campaign in Guam. He remembers climbing down the cargo nets to unload onto the beaches where 4,500 Americans lost their lives.

Since 1956, he has operated his own ham shortwave radio. In the first year, he used Morse code to communicate. In 1957, he switched to using a microphone, allowing him to talk directly to people all around the world. His station was K4JNA, which he proudly showcased on his license plates beginning in 1959. Mr. Strickler served his community as a member of the Lions Club for 37 years. He was honored to be chosen President of his club twice. At Heritage Hall – Front Royal he loves meeting new people, engaging in interesting conversations, and attending social events. Mr. Strickler also loves classical music and watching Jeopardy.
