Ms. Cynthia Ward is from the Wise County/City of Norton area of Southwest Virginia. When her children were young, she decided to become a nurse. Her first job was as an LPN in the emergency department (ED) at St. Mary’s Hospital. After three years in the ED, she trained to become a surgical nurse. She worked in the operating room until her retirement in 2000.
Not content being retired, Ms. Ward became a cafeteria monitor at Norton Elementary and Middle School. During her 10 years as a monitor, she was awarded the “Unsung Hero Award” for dedicated service. Now as a resident at Mountain View Regional Hospital (formerly St. Mary’s where she began her nursing career), Ms. Ward continues to find ways to take care and serve others.
