Ms. Janet Lunde was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, the oldest of three children. She received a business degree from what is now Barton College in Wilson, NC. Ms. Lunde has held a variety of positions in different fields including substitute teacher and costume designer for the ODU ballet. She also made flags that adorned gardens, porches, and yachts.
After her husband of 60 years passed away, she moved to assisted living where she took an art class. Since then, she has created many works of art, one of which is on display at a library in Virginia Beach. She finds painting relaxing and a way of expressing herself. Overcoming serious shyness while she was growing up, she has found that her artistic abilities help her communicate. She fought through her shyness by joining the Toastmistresses. Today she is very gregarious, has lots of friends. You would never think that she was quiet and shy as a child!
Since she has been at Lake Taylor, Ms. Lunde continues to take weekly art classes at her former assisted living facility. She has discovered that she likes bingo, something she thought she never would enjoy. She is “addicted” to jigsaw puzzles, usually working two at a time, and cryptograms. Ms. Lunde never slows down and likes to attend shopping, lunch and movie trips. She has also shared her talent by teaching an art class to other residents.
