Ms. Virginia WilkinsonMs. Virginia Wilkinson, an only child, was born in 1917 and grew up in Portsmouth, VA. She graduated from Wilson High School and worked in an office for three years following high school. She married the love of her live, Laurence Wilkinson and were married for 62 happy years. Every day, they said to each other, “I love you!”

She recalls her time as a model for Ames & Bromley Department Store as great fun. At five feet nine inches, Virginia could wear all the lovely clothes, and enjoyed modeling and smiling at the audience. She also fondly remembers how much she and her mother, Ruth Hutchins, loved cooking. Each year they made six types of Christmas Cookies to give to family and neighbors.

Virginia was a paid soloist, every Sunday for more than ten years at Freemason Abbey Church, in Norfolk, VA. She found singing in church choirs in Portsmouth and Richmond so rewarding. In addition, she taught Sunday School at Trinity United Methodist Church for many years. God has always been a central force in Laurence and Virginia’s life. They shared this grace with their son, Laurence Wilkinson, Jr. (Larry).

She has three grandsons: Coles, Cabot, and John. Virginia enjoys visits from them, their wives, and five great grandkids. Although the grandsons and great grands live out of state, speaking with them Zoom and through FaceTime give this cute great grandmother a lot of pleasure and smiles!

Reading, knitting, doing word search puzzles, and talking to friends in the dining hall at York Convalescent Center and Nursing Home keep Virginia young at heart.
