Virginia Ann Miller GarmonMiss Virginia Garmon, born in Alabama, says she loved being raised by her aunt. Virginia’s mother died when she was 14, and her father, a highway engineer, worked out of town. She attended Gaylesville Alabama High School and went on to college on a partial scholarship. She recalls going away to college with a trunk full of homemade feed sack dresses and cotton stockings thinking she “would be dressed to the hilt—was I ever surprised!” She became a public school teacher in Danville, VA. During her tenure as teacher, she earned her masters degree at James Madison University. She retired after 27 years of service.

Miss Virginia came to join the family at The Chastain Home for Gentlewomen located in Halifax County six years ago. She has overcome several hospital stays due to AFib and a broken femur. At the age of 94, Miss Virginia loves everything about living in a residential facility. She especially loves leading devotions. She has walked with God her whole life.

Miss Virginia volunteered at Roman Eagle Nursing Home and the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History. She also taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Danville, was a member of the Wednesday Club, and served as the secretary of the Halifax Women’s Club. Virginia loves handwriting and collecting letters and cards. She is very computer savvy with having many, many friends on Facebook.

The Chastain Home is delighted to have Miss Virginia as one of our residents. She brings such life to the home. Thus far Miss Virginia has lived a truly blessed life and she says all of her blessings have most certainly come from above.
