Nursing Home Compare is currently displaying an icon (see image) meant to signal the nursing home has reported a high number of days with no registered nursing (RN) staff for all nursing centers. This icon is appearing in error. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is aware of the issue and expects to correct it by the end of the day today, May 31.  After the fix, the gray icon will only be displayed for facilities which report seven or more days in the quarter with no RN services and a resident census greater than zero.

In April CMS began using data from the payroll based journal (PBJ) system to calculate the staffing measure rating for the Five-Star Quality Rating System.   For additional information on that change, click here.
