Do You Need to Claim an Unofficial Business Page on Facebook?

Do You Need to Claim an Unofficial Business Page on Facebook?

What exactly is an unofficial business page on Facebook? Unofficial pages are created when people tag a place or business but there is no page for that place or business on Facebook. A Facebook user can check into a business that does not have a page which automatically creates an unofficial page. It is important to claim any unofficial pages that may have been created for your community.

Unofficial pages are usually marked with a notification that reads, “This unofficial page was created because people on Facebook have shown interest in this place or business…”

There are a few steps to easily claim an unofficial page.

  1. Connect to Facebook
  2. Search for your local page by name
  3. Click on “Is this your business?”
  4. You can choose to merge the page with another page you already manage (if you already have a business page) or follow the steps to claim page by phone or by sending document and filling out the claim form.
  5. Make sure to look for variations of your facility (search the name with health and rehab or rehabilitation or nursing home). If more unofficial pages pop up, merge those pages with the business page you already manage.
