Report Cites Virginia’s ALF Regulations as Model

A recent report by the Long Term Care Community Coalition (LTCCC), which calls for stronger assisted living regulations nationwide, cited Virginia as a model state with respect to its regulations related to staff training, dementia care/special care units, and resident council requirements.

The report, Assisted Living: Promising Policies and Practices, uses specific state regulations as examples to model regulations including sample regulatory or policy language. The Coalition has posted a state regulation chart with a state’s status on various issues like dementia care and staffing ratios.

The LTCCC is a New York-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving quality of care, quality of life, and dignity for elderly and disabled people in nursing homes, assisted living, and other residential settings. LTCCC focuses on systemic advocacy, researching national and state policies, laws and regulations to identify relevant issues and develop meaningful recommendations to improve quality, efficiency, and accountability. In addition to providing a foundation for advocacy, LTCCC uses this research and the resulting recommendations to educate policymakers, consumers, and the general public.
