Advocacy is a year-round job.

• There’s much more to advocacy than lobbying during the General Assembly session.
• The meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates for our members.

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of November 6, 2023.  

• 11/6—Participated in the biweekly AHCA/NCAL call for state affiliate staff.
• 11/7—Attended the AHCA/NCAL Quality Improvement Committee meeting.
• 11/7—Spoke with staff in the offices of Sen. Tim Kaine and Rep. Jennifer Kiggans to discuss issues related to the Veterans Administration and nursing facilities.
• 11/7—Facilitated a meeting with VHCA-VCAL’s VLIPP grant partners Jensen Hughes and VHASS representatives.
• 11/8—Hosted the Nursing Facility Advisory Committee meeting attended by VHCA-VCAL members, OLC representatives, and other stakeholders.
• 11/9—Met with Rep. Bobby Scott to discuss the CMS proposed rule on nursing facility staffing.
• 11/10—Attending the Veterans Day and grand opening ceremony at the Jones & Cabacoy Veterans Care Center.
